Term 3, Week 9

Hello everyone and welcome to week 9,

We are nearly at the end of the third term! Wowwee!
I hope everyone had a ripper weekend! The weather was wonderful and I got to hit the course yesterday, so was a beauty.


Merit Award:
Congratulations to Louie Hodge for receiving a merit award last week. Mr Lee was quite upset when giving the award to Louie as The Bombers had just lost to The Cats a couple of days before.




Gratitude Wall:
In Year 4 we have been looking at gratitude and positive psychology. We have discussed that we need to focus on the positive sides of life. We tend to see the negatives in our lives, but shy away from the positive thoughts. We have created a ‘Gratitude Wall’ in which we write three things that went well for us throughout the day. It is all about training our brains to see the good things that happen as little as they may be.


Mission Markets:
These will be on Thursday 24th September. This is always a fantastic day celebrating the feast day of Mary's assumption. We will be celebrating a whole school mass at 10am and then we will move to our market time in which students can participate in a variety of activities.The Year 4's will be hosting a Chocolate Toss stall...the aim of this game is  students can throw their coins to land on a bar of chocolate. It is always hugely popular and a great fundraiser!

Please know that all staff are very mindful of the amount of sugar consumed on this day and the amount of landfill that is produced!

With this in mind, we are asking that all students in Year 4 send in 1 bar of chocolate (nut free - no Snickers) and 1 pack of fun size chocolates to be used as prizes. 

If these can please be in by Monday 21st September.

Students are to bring in a small amount of money, no more than $10 in small coins please. A wallet or purse with their name would be ideal!

Mission Markets Pre-Loved Stall:

On the last day of school (Thursday the 24th of September) the children will be participating in our annual feast day - The assumption of Mary. The Year 2 children are running a pre-loved toy and game store and would love any donations such as:
  • Books
  • Soft & hard toys (clean)
  • Board games & puzzles, with all pieces

There will be boxes outside the 2M classroom for you to place your donations in. We thank you in advance for your donations ðŸ˜Š

Scholastic Book Fair:

When:       Tuesday September 15th and Wednesday September 16th 
Where:      OLC hall (note the change of venue) 
Times:       Before  ( 8 - 8.40 am)  and after school (2.40-4 pm) on both days. 
  • We will be open 20 minutes before school finishes each day for those parents who would like to browse without their children.
  • We will also open from 1.10 pm – 1.30 pm on each of these days for the children to come in , browse and buy. 
  • If you are sending money to school with your child no more than $20 please. 
  • With sustainability a high priority on our school improvement plan we have decide to limit the amount of ‘landfill’ sold, in the  way of novelty items often wrapped in plastic.  
  • Posters, pencils, pens, and some erasers will still be available.  
  • Scholastic give the school a generous commission which can be spent at Scholastic or taken as cash to spend at local book stores. 
Walkie, Wheelie, Waste Free Wednesday:
Is on again this week if you can assist your child with walking or wheeling and bringing a waste free lunch. Thank you for your support!

Good afternoon and welcome to week 7, The DCC B Grade boys had a great win on the weekend and took home the flag! It was fantastic that the next day I was privileged to go to the Eucharist Commitment mass, which was a lovely ceremony. Eucharist Commitment Mass: Thank you to all who attended on Sunday morning. It was a beautiful ceremony and Father Ian was awesome with all the students. Eucharist Mass: Saturday 26 th March: We will be celebrating this on Saturday 26th March with mass beginning at  6:00pm . Those students that are making their First Eucharist are asked to wear white or a light coloured shirt and come dressed in their Sunday best. Due to Covid restrictions, we are asking all families to restrict their numbers to 10 family members only, including the candidate. Merit Award/Star Citizen: Congratulations to Lexi lambert and Patch O’Brien for receiving a Merit award and Star Citizen respectively. Love seeing people rewarded for the hard work. Well done guys. Term 4, Week 1

Good evening everyone!! Who’s pumped?!?!? I know I am! I hope that everyone had an excellent break. I went up to Coral Bay for the first time. Can’t believe that I haven’t been there before! Such a wicked place. Taste of SMMC : Just a reminder that all Year 4 students will be heading off on Friday to experience some of the delights of SMMC. If your child has not returned their permission slip and you need another copy, please let me know and I will send one home with your child on Monday. Stationery: If you can please take a moment to remind your child to clean out their pencil cases and check if they are missing anything. Laptops: Please also remind your child to pop them on charge ready for tomorrow and we will need them everyday.  Summer Uniform : Not that it feels like it but we are back in summer uniform as of Monday. Term 3, Week 5

Welcome to week 5! I  hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I am still shocked about the Dockers loss on Saturday. I hope nobody else was robbed like that on the weekend. The Eagles continue to be on a roll. Merit Award:  Congratulations to Xavier Goodall for receiving a merit award last week! Sports – Throws :  These will be conducted in our sports lesson this week, if you can please make sure that your child wears their faction shirt on Wednesday! Open Classrooms:   Please also be advised that our planned Open Night has been postponed due to Phase 4 Restrictions still being in place. A new date will be advised as soon as possible.  Feast Day:   OLC celebrated our Feast Day on Saturday 15th August...the Feast of the Assumption. Traditionally, we would have had a whole school mass and then our Mission Markets to celebrate this special day for our school.
