Term 1, Week 5

Welcome to week 5. I hope everyone survived the windy weekend. What an awesome day Sunday was. I played cricket for DCC B grade and we won so into the GF in a couple of weeks. Yeww. Ash Wednesday : On Wednesday as a group we will be celebrating a class liturgy in which we mark the start of Lent.  Students will have ashes sprinkled on the top of their heads rather than a cross placed on their forehead. Character Strength of the week Fairness. This is a great prompt for the dinner table, ask your child for times when they say fairness in action, either in themselves or others.  Fairness is treating people justly, not letting your personal feelings bias your decisions about others.  You want to give everyone a fair chance, and believe there should be equal opportunity for all, though you also realize that what is fair for one person might not be fair for another. Fairness is a cognitive judgment capacity that involves reasoning and making judgments. It involves 2 types of reasoning: J

Welcome to week 4. Character Strengths :  Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. The strengths that we will focus on are taken directly from the VIA Institute for Character. If you wanted to learn more about this please follow the link to the 24 character strengths: https://www.viacharacter.org/character-strengths This upcoming week we are looking for people who show  Curiousity . Can you encourage your child to reflect on the following? Library books : We are exchanging our Library books on a Wednesday. If the students have their Library bags back at school by Tuesday there is less chance of forgetting them the next day! Writing : We have begun working on a class setting description based on an image of a favourite place. We are currently working in the We Do model, where the students and I co-construct a setting description so they have a good example to refer back to when they move to creating their own. We are so excited to teach your children and have already had such a great two weeks getting to know everyone.                                  👇 Click below to access the powerpoint 👇 Year 4 Parent Information Thank you again for taking the time to go through the presentation. Term 1, week 3

Good evening and welcome to week 3! 2 weeks already down! Crazy to think that! Everyone survived swimming I am fairly sure and now we can get cracking into the real stuff. Character strength of the week: C reativity is thinking of new ways to do things. It involves producing ideas or behaviors that are original. However, originality is not enough: whatever is created, whether an idea or a product, must also be useful or adaptable.  For example, you might write a blog post that is unique because it is entirely gibberish. That’s not going to be useful, so it would not be considered creative. There are two essential components to Creativity- originality and adaptiveness.  A creative individual generates ideas or behaviors that are novel or unusual and these make a positive contribution to the individual's life or the lives of others group. Pope Francis says: "Grow in creativity, do not be afraid". Homework: We will begin homework this week and we will show the students how t

Kaya wandjoo to week 2! I  hope everyone had an awesome weekend. What a difference a day makes. We were at the beach until 7 on Saturday night and then running for cover on Sunday. Very crazy.  Playground Behaviour: I would just like to make everyone aware that there has been a couple of incidents during soccer on the oval in week 1. If you could please to talk your children about the fact that recess and lunch is about enjoying themselves and spending time with their friends. It seems a few students believe that they are playing in the English Premier League or similar leagues. If they are, I would love a cut of their cheques. Please remind them it is all about fun during break times. I don’t want to be the one that ruins that fun.  Parent Information Night: Due to Covid requirements there will not be a parent information night this year. We will pass on the required information in another form and more information will be coming out soon to let you know how and when.  Seesaw: Seesaw
